Soldiers in Somalia’s Puntland regional state on Wednesday staged a protest in Garowe, the capital of Puntland, over unpaid salaries by blocking the road leading to the presidency and ministries of the Puntland administration, according to local media.

The road is used by many government employees commuting to the ministries and the presidency.

The protesting soldiers include those tasked with guarding the presidential palace where President Said Deni of Puntland resides.

The troops have reportedly not received their wages in the past few months.

This is the second time in a span of few days that such a protest has been staged by soldiers stationed in the Golis mountains had similarly blocked the road to Bosaso over delay in the payment of salaries and poor working conditions.
