The last three days have seen Somali troops advance into new territories in central Galgadud region as the government seeks to complete phase one of the offensive against Al-Shabaab terrorists.
On Saturday, army spokesman Brigadier General Abdullahi Ali Anod told the media that the Somali forces liberated the village of Budbud in Galgadud region, the latest military victory secured by the government.
He listed other villages liberated by the army as El Ahmed, El Saban Sablale, and El Ali Hassan.
These “villages are rich in groundwater and pastures that were being controlled by the enemy (Al-Shabaab),” Anod said.
He described the recent military gains as a “slap” on the face of the terrorists and demonstrates the government’s commitment to move on to phase two of the anti-terror offensive.
The government has doubled efforts to liberate the remaining territories in Hirshabelle and Galmudug states as it plans to launch the second phase of the offensive in the states of Southwest and Jubaland.
