The speakers of the bicameral federal parliament arrived in Dhusamareb, Galmudug State, on Thursday to show their solidarity with the ongoing military offensive against Al-Shabab.

The offensive is being led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who has been temporarily based in Dhusamareb since early August.

The speakers, Sheikh Adan Mohamed (Madobobe) of the People’s Assembly and Mr. Abdihashi Abdullahi of the Upper House, met with the president to discuss the progress of the offensive and to express their support for the National Security Forces.

The leaders praised President Mohamud for his leadership in the fight against Al-Shabab and emphasized that the Somali people have one common enemy that must be defeated. They affirmed the parliament’s full support for the National Armed Forces.

“I have decided to support the Somali National Forces by being here with them and taking part in this offensive operation. I want to show them that they are not alone in this fight, and I am willing to take the same risks as they are,” the president said at the meeting.

Other parliamentarians also attended the meeting to show solidarity in the fight against Al-Shabab, boost the morale of the fighters, and restore hope in the Somali people.
