The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has officially invited the leader of the interim SSC-Khatumo administration to participate in the upcoming National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting, marking the first time the region is included in high-level national discussions.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who is visiting Las Anod, said on Sunday that SSC-Khatumo President Abdulkadir Firdhiye had received the invitation from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and would attend the forum.

“Firdhiye has received the President’s invitation and will participate in the National Consultative Council meeting,” Barre said on Sunday during his visit to Las Anod.

The inclusion of SSC-Khatumo in the NCC is seen as a significant step toward broader national dialogue and political integration.

On the second day of his visit to Las Anod, Prime Minister Barre also inaugurated several development projects aimed at improving services and governance in the region.

The projects include a new immigration and citizenship centre, the SSC-Khatumo Police Headquarters, and a vocational training centre named after Somali anti-colonial leader Sayyid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan.

Other facilities launched were a tarmac road connecting Samakaab and Buuhoodle, new administrative offices, and a hospital.

Prime Minister Barre said these developments would support stability and service delivery in the region. He promised continued federal support for further projects.
