One person sustained injuries on Wednesday morning when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Al-Shabaab detonated at the largest water well in Elgras town, located in the Galgadud region of Somalia.

The strategic town of Elgaras was captured on Tuesday, but Al-Shabaab had planted explosives at key sites in the town with the intent to harm civilians.

However, most of these devices were successfully neutralized by government forces.

The government forces are now trying to capture more areas around Elgras from Al-Shabaab, but they constantly get targeted with attacks and IEDs.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration has made fighting Al-Shabaab its top priority, viewing the group’s defeat as essential for any progress in development and state reconstruction.
