Somalia’s Defence Ministry said on Friday that government forces repelled coordinated Al-Shabaab attacks on multiple villages in the Middle Shabelle region. The assaults, which began on Thursday and continued into Friday, targeted Ceel Cali Axmed, Al-Kowsar, Ceel Baraf, and Daarul-Nimca—areas within Hirshabelle state.

Military spokesperson Sheikh Abukar said government forces repelled the attack on Ceel Cali Axmed after Al-Shabaab launched multiple assaults, including SVBIEDs. He stated that more than 100 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in total during the clashes across all the targeted villages. The Somali government shared purported graphic videos of dead Al-Shabaab fighters on its Telegram channel.

The Middle Shabelle region has seen frequent clashes between Somali forces and Al-Shabaab as the government continues offensives against the group. Authorities have not disclosed casualty figures among their forces.

Meanwhile, former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed commended the security forces for repelling the attacks and urged for intensified operations against Al-Shabaab.
