Somali authorities announced on Saturday that more than 100 Al-Shabaab fighters have surrendered to government forces across several regions. In recent weeks, fighters from Galmudug, Hirshabelle, South West, Jubbaland, and Mogadishu have chosen to lay down arms and participate in the government’s rehabilitation program.

The government attributes the success to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s amnesty program, designed to help fighters reintegrate into society.

This announcement comes amid ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab, particularly in central Somalia. Just last week, state media reported eliminating over 100 Al-Shabaab fighters in airstrikes conducted with international partners in Mudug.

The government’s statement also expressed its gratitude to Somali parents who are actively protecting their children from Al-Shabaab’s influence.
