A suicide car bomb detonated at a taxation and security checkpoint in Beledweyne, the capital of HirShabelle State, Somalia, on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 individuals and injuring many more.

The blast occurred in a bustling market area, damaging nearby shops, restaurants, and a gas station.

A family living near the checkpoint was among the casualties. The death toll may rise beyond 20.

Beledweyne is the second most targeted city for terrorist explosions in Somalia, after Mogadishu.
