Mortar shells landed near Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport and the adjacent Halane compound on Sunday morning, injuring at least two civilians, according to local sources.

Some of the shells struck residential areas in the capital’s Wadajir district. Others reportedly fell inside the Halane compound, which houses embassies, United Nations offices, and international organisations.

The Somali government has not yet issued an official statement. However, security sources told local media that a crisis meeting was held following the incident. An investigation has been reportedly launched to determine the origin of the attack and whether there was a security breach.

The attack comes a day after mortar shells struck near the presidential palace, injuring civilians and damaging property.

Following Sunday’s incident, Turkish Airlines and EgyptAir delayed flights to Mogadishu. Local media reported the delays may be linked to the shelling and potential damage to the airport runway.
