President Mohamud Visits Frontline Town of Mahas to Strengthen Fight Against Al-Shabaab

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Mahas district on Sunday as part of the mobilization of forces for the offensive against Al-Shabaab. Mahas is a strategic town that borders Elbur and Wabho towns in the central Galmudug regional state of Somalia.
Government officials, including Members of the Federal Parliament and the former Governor of Hiran Region, Ali Jeyte Osman, visited the town on Saturday in preparation to welcome the president.
It is not known how long the President will stay in Mahas, but it is expected that he will discuss with local clan elders and the public on ways of strengthening the offensive against Al Shabaab.
Since taking office for his second term, President Mohamud has made fighting Al-Shabaab his top priority. He believes that defeating Al-Shabaab, or at least weakening them, is essential for any development that the government wants to achieve.
