The Somali army on Saturday liberated El Hur village in Mudug region which falls under Galmudug state.
“As a result of planned and coordinated operations, the [Somali] armed forces, Galmdudug Darwish Forces, and armed local militias have taken the full control of El Hur village in Mudug region,” Galmudug said in a statement.
The capture of El Hur comes a day after the government reported liberating Ali-Helo village which is under Gal’ad town of Galgadud region.
After liberating Hiirshabelle state from Al-Shabaab militants, the government has set its eyes on expelling the terrorist group from all territories in Galmudug state, which is made up of Mudug and Galgadud regions.
Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab has killed at least 30 people in suicide bombings in the towns of Buloburde and Jalaqsi in Hiiraan region.
In another development, Deputy Minister of Information Yusuf Al-Addala told journalists on Saturday that the government has frozen 250 bank accounts and permanently suspended 70 mobile SIM cards used by the group to extort money from the public.
Following his election in May last year, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced an “all-out war” against Al-Shabaab militants which saw the Somali army leading offensives against Al-Shabaab that have led to the liberation of vast territories from the group in south and central Somalia.
Besides fighting the group militarily, the government also laid plans to fight it on the ideological and financial fronts.
