The Somali army and Jubbaland state’s Darwish paramilitary forces on Saturday captured the village of Janay Cabdalle in Jubbaland state, about 52km northwest of Kismayo town.
The capture of the strategic village came shortly after Jubaland declared launching a “multi-front military offensive” against al-Shabaab.
In remarks following the liberation of the village, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who hails from Jubbaland, described Janay Cabdalle as “an important interlinking point of many of Jubbaland’s towns.”
Praising prior victories against the terrorist group in other parts of the country, Barre pledged to “pursue the enemy [Al-Shabaab] until our people and country is liberated from them.”
Meanwhile, the US Africa Command reported on Saturday the killing of “approximately thirty” al-Shabaab fighters were killed and destroying three of their vehicles in “collective self-defense airstrike” carried out on January 20 near recently liberated Galcad town as the Somali army was repelling a “a complex, extended, intense attack by more than 100 al-Shabaab fighters.”
