Somali national forces, alongside the local Maawisley forces, have successfully captured the town of Wabho in the central Galgaduud region from Al-Shabaab militants.

The operation to reclaim Wabho, ,a strategic town and a crucial stronghold controlled by Al-Shabaab,  was executed on Monday afternoon through a combined force of the national army, regional forces and clan militias known as Maawisley, Gen. Abdullahi Ali Anod, the Ministry of Defense’s spokesperson confirmed.

Other liberated areas include Daadale, Gal-Qoryaale, Bidde Isse,

“The expulsion of the Al-Shabaab group from these regions was executed with tactical precision,” emphasized Gen. Abdullahi Ali Aanood. “The military has secured these areas, and there are no plans for withdrawal from the newly captured locations,” he added.

Of particular significance is the town of Wabho. Known for its wells and expansive grasslands, the town has long been a crucial point of control for Al-Shabaab, according to General Anod.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s decision to personally coordinate operations from the capital of Galmudug, Dhusamareeb, signifies a renewed push to liberate areas still under Al-Shabaab control.
