The Somali army on Monday repulsed an Al-Shabaab terrorist attack targeting an army camp in Daru-Na’im village in Middle Shabelle region.

The attack started at dawn on Monday as the terror group hurled bombs at a military camp in the village prompting an exchange of fire between the soldiers manning the post and the infiltrating militants.

The camp was also housing some of the Eritrea-trained Somali soldiers who were recently repatriated from the horn of African country after they completed their training, according to local media.

The infantry chief of the Somali National Army Gen. Mohamed Tahalil told state media that his troops “gallantly” repulsed an attack by the terrorists at Daru-Na’im village killing over 30 terrorists.

Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab claimed its militants killed 20 Somali forces and injured 10 others.

In recent months, Al-Shabaab saw its militants expelled from much of Middle Shabelle region and other regions in southern and central Somalia.

In retaliation, the Al-Qaeda affiliated group has carried out attacks targeting army camps, government buildings and civilians across the country.
