Two herders killed by armed militia near Somalia’s Matabaan district

Two herders were killed on Tuesday morning by armed militia in a rural area under Matabaan district in Somalia’s central Hiiraan region, local media reported.
The victims, identified as Bashiir Ganeey and Cali Daahir Rooble, nephew and uncle, were tending livestock when they were attacked and shot dead. According to residents, the assailants are believed to be militiamen from Guriceel district in the neighbouring Galgaduud region.
Preliminary reports indicate the killings were driven by an inter-clan dispute linked to longstanding tensions in parts of Matabaan district. The attackers fled the scene, and local authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Tensions remain high in the area, with residents voicing concern over the potential for further violence. Security forces have not confirmed whether any investigations or security operations are under way.
