Authorities in Somalia’s Banadir region have officially seized a house in Mogadishu’s Hamar Jajab district, citing its alleged use in a plot to assassinate President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in March.

Banadir regional spokesman Saleh Omar told local media on Tuesday that the property was confiscated under a directive from the Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu. The house reportedly belongs to a Somali woman identified as Fahma Warsame Kabayare.

“This house was used for purposes that directly endangered public safety and national security,” Omar said, adding that the operation followed a joint investigation conducted by the Banadir Police Command and the Ministry of Internal Security.

The explosives used in the March 18 bombing attempt were reportedly buried at the site. The attack on the president seemed a daring attempt to assassinate him at a time when Al-Shabaab had intensified their operations.
